Budgets, who needs them? You Do!
The Purpose of a Budget is a well liked class, because the students are given occupations along with an envelope with their monthly income. The students can be a
fast food employee
(full-time) making $1015/month, a
secretary or skilled laborer
making $1300/month, a
teacher
making $2083/month, a
skilled craftsman
making $3,816/month or a
physician
making $4000/month. The students are told this would be the income either right out of high school or their first year out of college. They are then given forms that list normal monthly expenses that they will have as an adult. The goal is to have some money for their savings by the end of the list. This doesn’t always happen. Afterwards, they are asked the question….....When you beg your parents for something and they say, “We just don’t have the money for that right now.” do you understand why now? Their answer? Yes!
